The Centre for Innovative Education and Communication Technologies (CIECT) provides Audio Visual support services to all academics and non-academics across faculties and departments at UWC.  During the lockdown period, the AVS team supported faculties and other institutional structures to successfully host conferences and events.

 

Video Conferencing & Special Events during Lockdown

 

In addition to maintenance work the AVS team has been instrumental in providing AV support to Faculties and other university structures. These support services include:

  •   Community Engagement Unit (CEU): Video conferencing assistance to community  engagement workshops,
  •   Plaas: Conference (off-campus)
  •   Golf Day: Technical support at University Golf Day (off-campus)
  •   Memorial Services (on and off- campus)
  •   Pharmacy: Technical support for exam (camera support)
  •   University Sport Award: Technical support (audio & visual)
  •   Theology Home-coming: Live-streaming event
  •   ER 24 Ambulance Donation for Nursing Outreach Programme
  •   Alumni Reunion
  •   Deputy-Minister of HE visit: Technical support
  •   University concert: DVC Academic Christmas Concert
  •   DVC-Academic Week: Closing Concert
  •   DVC-Academic: Courageous Conversations Documentary
  •   IOP task meeting (on-campus)
  •   Vendor meetings 

Maintenance and upgrade of 27 venues [VGA to HDMI Technology]

 

CIECT, Audio Visual Services (AVS) - is responsible for audio visual support in 300 academic venues across the Main Campus and three satellite campuses, these include:

 

  •   Tygerberg Campus (Dentistry)
  •   Mitchells Plain Campus (Dentistry)
  •   Bellville Central Campus (Community and Health Sciences)
  •   Institutional (newly acquired buildings)

During Level 3 of the national lockdown the AVS team returned in a limited capacity to campus to resume audio visual support to those staff members back on campus. Since their return, AVS staff members have performed routine venue checks and maintenance on AV systems across the institution's main campus ensuring that teaching spaces are operational when staff return to campus in 2021.

 

In some venues the audio-visual systems had become inoperable and a vendor was brought in to repair 27 venues. These include:

·         A – block = 5 classes

·         B – block = 4 classes

·         C – block = 5 venues

·         L – block = 5 venues

·         DL – block = 3 classes

·         Dentistry = 5 classes
