GSM 401: Interactive Online Design for Teacher Educators – ‘Method of Teaching Natural Science’
Tuesday, March 22, 2022Science and Mathematics Education lecturer, Zainoenisa Allie has created an interactive online module for her Method of Teaching Natural Science to her 4th year class. The structured online environment includes various multimedia resources and learning and teaching activities.
Student Resources: eBooks, school resources & lecture material
The ‘Course Resources’ folder is structured to present specific learning material, including:
- Lecture material (presentations, readings, reference guides)
- Course administration (Class lists and assessment tasks)
- School resources (textbooks, Curriculum documents)
- eBooks (prescribed textbooks)
- Software Resources (specific software)
‘Live lecture’: Announcements posted within iKamva
The lecturer posts regular announcements which provide links to each online lecture presented via the Zoom platform. These reminders are linked to the students’ email accounts. The students are reminded of their upcoming lectures.
Sharing weekly lecture recordings
The lecturer shares her weekly lecture (topic) recording with the students via the iKamva platform. The lecture recordings are embedded within the ‘Lessons eTool’.
Formative Assessment: Assignments & Reflective Questions
The Assignment eTool was used for students to upload class and homework activities and essays. One of these assignments has been linked to Turnitin. Students have the opportunity to resubmit an unlimited number of times until the due date. This allows for students to develop their academic writing and become comfortable with referencing and writing essays. The Tests and Quizzes eTool is used for students to respond to short-answer reflective questions. A specific formula sheet is provided prior to the online quiz which allows students to answer questions accordingly.
