Dentistry
Faculty lecturers, Shaheda Simons and Jos Hille jointly teach 1st year students
in the CLD 100 (Clinical Dentistry) Module. This year-long module has been
supported by a structured online environment, making use of various assessment
and content creation tools offered by iKamva.
Scaffolded & Integrated Lessons
The online
environment was developed according to a scaffolded approach which enables
students to work through each ‘learning unit’. Each learning unit/lesson –
provides students with: an Overview, Contextualisation, Rationale for Learning,
Lecture Presentations and other relevant information, including required
readings and embedded YouTube videos.
Interactive Assignments: Reinforcement, Team Work & Problem Solving
Students were given an assignment in the form of a crossword puzzle and word searches. The benefits of using this approach are many, including:
● Reinforcing
concepts,
● Identifying
gaps in learning,
● Develop
teamwork skills (peer learning),
● Problem solving skills, and
● Develop critical thinking skills.
