Dentistry Faculty Module: Online Formative and Practical Face-to-Face Summative Assessment

Lecturers, Dr R Ahmed, Prof K Ramphoma, Prof S Padayachee, Prof S Mulder-Van-Staden, Dr M Cupido, Dr J Ziegeler, Dr Karjiker, Dr H Albougy, Dr N Noordien, Dr C Gordon, Dr K Simpson, Dr S Indermun and Dr S Ahmed facilitate the Comprehensive Patient Management (CPM500) module.
This module aims to develop final-year dental students’ competence in integrated clinical practice by consolidating and applying knowledge and skills acquired throughout the dental curriculum. It prepares students for the realities of evolving clinical practice (Module Outline 2026).
The module is divided into two components. The theory Component, which facilitates the integration and application of theoretical knowledge through structured contact sessions and the Clinical/Practical Component, which provides opportunities for experiential learning and the development of practical competencies. Participation in the clinical and practical sessions is compulsory.
Structured Lessons/Topics
The lecture topics are structured according to disciplines; and entails relevant content, images and links to resources.
Students are expected to complete assignments and activities, making use of various eAssessment tools, including: Tests and Quizzes related to Case Studies. The questions composed of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), True or False and Short Answer Questions. They are expected to attach relevant fact sheets, patient profiles and x-rays.
Face-to-Face Summative Assessment: Clinical/Practical Exam
The Final Examination was conducted face-to-face at the Dentistry Faculty.
