The Digital Media Studio provides an environment where academic and professional staff can produce high-quality educational digital content, including video production, podcast recording, digital stories and narrated presentations, in a controlled setting.
A space to produce digital content: Videos, Podcasts and Digital Stories
The Digital Media Studio provides an environment where academic and professional staff can produce high-quality educational digital content, including video production, podcast recording, digital stories and narrated presentations, in a controlled setting.
Controlled studio setting: Recording space and sound booth
The studio is particularly suited to content that requires consistent sound, lighting and video quality. Some of the key features and applications of the studio include:
- Controlled recording environment – The studio provides a controlled space for managing sound, video and lighting during recording.
- Teleprompter – A teleprompter is available to support longer, approximately 10-minute, presentations delivered directly to camera.
- Two-person interviews – The studio is ideal for one-on-one interviews and conversational teaching content.
- Studio recording space – A dedicated space is available for video recording, provided that a suitably quiet environment can be maintained.
- Sound booth – The studio includes a dedicated sound booth for recording individual voice-over narrations and audio content.
- Small-group discussions – The space can accommodate small-group discussions of up to approximately 12 participants.
- Podcast recording – The studio provides a quiet environment suitable for recording personal or small-scale podcast content.
Sound booth: Supporting multilingual teaching and learning
In 2024, a dedicated sound booth was installed in the Digital Media Studio through a collaboration between CIECT and the Department of Linguistics. The initiative was aimed at supporting the development of multilingual teaching and learning content. The sound booth provides a controlled acoustic environment for recording individual voice-over narrations and can also be used for podcast production. The facility is designed to accommodate one person at a time, making it particularly suitable for narration, voice recordings and other audio-focused content. This addition has expanded the DMS's ability to support academics who require high-quality audio as part of their digital teaching resources.
Staff who are unsure about the best approach to producing their digital content are welcome to contact the Multimedia team for advice and guidance. The team can provide recommendations on suitable approaches, production requirements and the effective use of multimedia for teaching and learning.
While the Digital Media Studio provides a professional environment for content production, it is important to note that the DMS is not an equipment or software lending facility. Its purpose is to support the development and production of digital teaching and learning content.
