The School of Nursing lecturers (Fundamentals of Nursing module) have created a structured and interactive online environment within iKamva for first year students: learning material, lecture presentations, discussions, and assessments.

Student preparation prior to face-to-face lectures

The lecturers design interactive lessons related to theory and clinical topics, including: lesson outcomes, presentations, recordings of online lectures; and information on specific individual and group activities. The students are expected to access these ‘prep lessons’, made available throughout the course.

Face-to-face lectures supplemented with online environment

During the academic year the module is taught via a blended learning approach, which combines face-to-face teaching and online instruction. Students are able to access the online environment in order to reinforce and reflect on lessons.

Post face-to-face lectures

Students engage in online discussion topics (individual and groups) - related to the content presented in class. This enables student-to-student and lecturer-student interactions. The lecturers can guide students and identify gaps and challenges. In addition, the lecturers have set-up assessments, including theory and clinical pre-knowledge quizzes; and tests. Question types include MCQs and Short-answer question types.
